Leamington wants transit link to Windsor, Essex, Kingsville

The Municipality of Leamington is working on an intercommunity bus service so residents can ride to destinations in Kingsville, Essex, and Windsor.

When the service starts, how much the fare will be, how often it would run, and the route are still being finalized. However, the service would provide three round trips a day and operate Monday to Friday, with a stop at St. Clair College.

"Access to transportation significantly impacts the economic development, health, and overall quality of life in our community," said Mayor Hilda MacDonald. "An inter-community bus service is vital for residents to reach healthcare services, education and employment opportunities, and social services. It is also essential for the expansion of our local businesses and labour force."

Last week, Leamington was awarded $606,040 in provincial grant funding over five years as part of the Community Transportation Grant Program.

Last Friday, Minister of Transportation Jeff Yurek said the funding was to help communities with few public transit options expand service.

Leamington was the only municipality in Essex County to get the funding from the Ministry of Transportation.
