Local hospitals get provincial funding for repairs

All three hospitals in Windsor-Essex are getting provincial funding for upgrades, repairs and maintenance of their facilities.

Windsor Regional Hospital is receiving just over $1.5 million, Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare in west Windsor is getting around $770,000, and Erie Shores Healthcare in Leamington is receiving approximately $336,000.

On Tuesday, the province announced $175 million for 128 hospitals in Ontario to address urgent issues, including upgrades or replacements of roofs, windows, heating and air conditioning systems, fire alarms and back-up generators.

Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Christine Elliott said the money will make sure that hospitals continue to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for patients to receive care.

"The health and safety of patients and families is a priority for our government," said Elliott. "That's why we must make the necessary investments in our hospitals now, to ensure our providers have the facilities they need to continue to provide excellent quality care to patients."

The provincial government said it is moving forward quickly to address challenges facing the health care system as it develops a long-term transformational health care strategy to end hallway health care.
