More charges filed following Windsor traffic stop

A 22-year-old Windsor man faces additional drug and weapon charges following a Tuesday night traffic stop.

Windsor police said officers pulled over a vehicle in the area of Tecumseh Road East and Howard Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday because it was travelling without a light shining on the rear licence plate. An investigation uncovered that the vehicle was associated with a suspended driver who was known to police.

Officers also noticed a clear bag in the vehicle that contained about 300 grams of suspected cannabis and they arrested the driver. A closer search of the vehicle showed three firearms, 50 grams of suspected cocaine and 20 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

Hussein al Hayawi has been charged with eight firearms offences and six that are drug related, including one each for possession of cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone and cannabis with the intent to sell. These charges have yet to be proven in court.

Police said the case remains under investigation. They are also reminding people that despite cannabis now being legal for recreational consumption, people are only allowed to have a maximum of 30 grams in their possession. Cannabis can also only be purchased legally online.
