Police find their suspect in the ceiling of a business during break-in

A 37-year-old Windsor man faces charges after police found a suspect in the ceiling of a business while investigating a break-in downtown.

Police got a report about a man who had forced his way into a business on Wyandotte Street East near Windsor Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Monday night.

When officers got to the scene, they found glass from a broken window and some items scattered around the store.

They also watched video surveillance of a suspect take a laptop and put it in his bag before walking out the back door. The bag was found behind the store, but then officers got the idea the suspect may still be inside.

That's when they heard movement in the ceiling.

The suspect would not cooperate. He appeared to be hiding something in his hands, and there was a struggle, so officers tasered him.

He suffered minor injuries.

The laptop has been recovered, and police have charged Steven Gonyea with break and enter, mischief under $5,000, and possessing break and enter tools.
