It took overtime for the Windsor Express to hold off the London Lightning.
The Express persevered through a back-and-forth battle but prevailed 122-119 Saturday night at the WFCU Centre. The Express are back at the even mark in the NBLC standings with a 9-9 record. London is right behind at 8-10.
Windsor began the game strong and held an eight-point lead after the first quarter, then had a 52-47 lead at halftime. The Lightning made adjustments and fought back, outscoring the Express 35-26 in the third quarter, then roared back and forced overtime.
All of Windsor's starting lineup scored in double digits. Tyrrel Tate and Ryan Anderson led the way for the Express with 21 points each, while DeAndre Thomas contributed 20 points and led the Express on defence with seven rebounds.
Xavier Moon led all scorers, and his London teammates, with 23 points. A.J. Gaines Jr. scored 22 off the bench, with Alex Johnson and Kirk Williams Jr. picking up 16 apiece. Marvin Phillips collected a double-double with 13 points and a team-leading ten rebounds.
The Lightning return to Budweiser Gardens Sunday afternoon when they host the Saint John Riptide. Windsor travels to Sudbury on Thursday.
