Two high profile criminal cases in the Windsor area continue through the courts.
Pre-trial hearings are ongoing for former Kingsville Fire Chief Bob Kissner, who is facing 17 sex-related charges. His trial was expected to begin at Windsor Superior Court on Monday but it has been delayed due to a prolonged pre-trial.
The prosecutor and the defence usually appear before a criminal court judge behind closed doors and make pre-trial motions during these hearings, which are arguments that certain evidence should be kept out of the trial, or that certain persons must or cannot testify, or that the case should be dismissed altogether.
The 62-year-old Kissner retired two months after being charged with sexual assault, sexual exploitation and sexual interference, in connection to an investigation that began in December of 2016. The OPP said the assaults occurred between 2002 and 2016 and involved three adult victims and minors.
Three weeks have been set aside for the trial, which is expected to start soon.
Also in Windsor court, the man charged with murdering an elderly woman on the Ganatchio Trail in October of 2017, 21-year-old Habibullah Ahmadi, will have a preliminary hearing at provincial court on Friday.
Sarah Anne Widholm, 76, was walking along the trail east of Little River Road and Riverdale Avenue when she was viciously beaten, leaving her with severe head injuries. She died of her injuries in the hospital on December 16.
Ahmadi, who was originally charged with aggravated assault and attempted murder, has since been charged with second-degree murder following Widholm's death.
