Spitfires beat Rangers 7-1 for fourth straight win

The Windsor Spitfires remain perfect in 2019.

It was an offensive onslaught that brought Windsor a 3-0 record in the new year and their fourth straight, a 7-1 victory over the Kitchener Rangers Sunday afternoon at the WFCU Centre. Windsor now has 37 points and is in fourth place in the OHL West Division.

The Spitfires picked up their first two goals exactly one minute apart in the opening period. Daniel D'Amico scored on the power play at 7:52, then Jean-Luc Foudy found the net for a 2-0 Spits lead.

Windsor added three unanswered goals in the second frame, off the sticks of Mathew MacDougall, Nathan Staios and Luke Boka for a 5-0 advantage after 40 minutes.

The Rangers got on the board early in the third period, when Greg Meireles scored on the power play, but the Spitfires answered with two more goals. Recent acquisition Chase Campbell, playing against his former teammates, lit the lamp at 6:02, then Tyler Angle sealed the victory.

Kari Piiroinen stopped all but one of Kitchener's 27 shots. Luke Richardson knocked away 21 shots for the Rangers.

The Spits are back in action Thursday night when they host the Flint Firebirds.
