Holiday domestic violence is escalating

With the holiday season upon us, LaSalle Police Service is reporting that it has seen a spike in the number of domestic dispute calls over the last few weeks.

Police officials said unfortunately, the joy of the holiday season can also bring financial stress, increased alcohol consumption, and the stress of finding the perfect gifts.

Family gatherings also tend to elicit a need to keep up appearances, or increase anxiety levels about socializing with certain family members.

Police added the combination of all these stressors cause an influx of domestic violence-related calls.

They remind people that Christmas is a time to share love, affection, appreciation, and happiness with loved ones. Authorities said people don't have to suffer in silence so they don’t put a damper on someone else’s holiday.
