Windsor Port Authority donates to Street Help

The Windsor Port Authority is making a generous donation to a local homeless shelter this holiday season.

On Wednesday, employees from Port Windsor delivered 100 cold weather kits to the Windsor Street Help Homeless Centre. Each cold weather kit was prewrapped and contained gloves, a hat, and two pairs of socks.

This was the first year Port Windsor made such a sizeable donation to a local organization.

Steven Salmons, president and CEO, said the idea for giving came from an evening of getting. Each year the company has an open house dinner for community partners and customers. At the end of the evening, Port Authority gives a gift to everyone attending as a token of appreciation. This year they decided to do something different.

"Just the very fact that we have an open house, an evening of food, drink and thank you, we probably have all we need and that we'd be better off making a donation on behalf of our customers," said Salmons. "For each person that attended the open house, Port Authority donated a cold weather care package and will donate a meal on Christmas day."

Salmons said to expect to see the company doing a lot more similar charitable acts.

"We don't need any more tokens in life, we need to do more for people that are struggling in life," said Salmons.
