Tecumseh's mayor has been chosen by his colleagues to be the new Essex County warden.
Gary McNamara replaces Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain as the head of county council for the next four years. McNamara was challenged by Kingsville Mayor Nelson Santos. Santos was later appointed deputy warden by acclamation.

McNamara called on his council colleagues to “be bold and be visionaries” in his inaugural speech Wednesday night.
He said the mega-hospital had to “come to fruition” and that it was “time to look to the future with a renewed sense of optimism.”
