Elderly woman surprises intruder in Windsor home invasion

Windsor police are investigating after an elderly woman encountered an uninvited visitor in her home this weekend.

Police were called around 5 a.m. Saturday to a home on Central Avenue near Metcalfe Street after a report of a break-and-enter. When officers arrived, the woman told them that she was alone in the house when an intruder was encountered.

A large amount of jewelry was taken and the suspect ran from the home out the front door.

The investigation showed that the suspect had gained entry into the house by breaking a window. The scene was processed by the WPS Forensic Identification Unit. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a white male, 18 to 20 years old with a small build, standing 5' and weighing 120 pounds. He was clean-shaven and wearing a black knee-length winter coat and hood.

Anyone with information should call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4350 or Crime Stoppers.
