Protestors blockade Tecumseh post office

Some local postal workers have expressed their disapproval of recent back-to-work legislation.

Some members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) protested the federal government's passage of a back-to-work law by staging a blockade Thursday afternoon outside the Canada Post station on Tecumseh Road East in Tecumseh, according to a news release by the Windsor and District Labour Council.

"As an expression of our dislike of them being legislated back to work, and in support of CUPW members, there is a blockage of Canada Post vehicles departing the Tecumseh Post office," said the release.

Vehicles are being allowed into the parking lot, along with customers who are doing business with the post office, but no Canada Post vehicles are being allowed to leave the property, impeding carriers' ability to deliver any mail.

Unionized Canada Post workers had staged rotating strikes across the country for over five weeks, but with the busy holiday shipping season underway, the Liberal government passed legislation earlier this week to force workers off the picket lines and back to work.

Canada Post has confirmed via its Twitter account that mail has not left the facility since Thursday morning, calling the blockade "illegal activity impacting the collection and delivery of mail and parcels."
