UPDATE: Cellphone issues with Windsor 911 resolved

Windsor Police say a problem between its dispatchers and some cell phone users has been corrected.

WPS said via Twitter Sunday afternoon that the cell phone problems concerned customers with Bell Mobility and Telus Cellular. The Windsor police dispatch centre, which handles both 911 emergency and regular non-emergency calls for Windsor and Amherstburg, said that callers were not able to hear the dispatchers, but dispatchers could hear the callers.

According to an alert send out to cell phones by the town of Amherstburg, callers needing emergency response were urged to use a landline or a pay phone to make the calls.

The issue caused a communication breakdown between callers and the dispatch centre for less than 90 minutes Sunday afternoon. However, both cellphone carriers have confirmed with Windsor police that the issue has been addressed and fixed.
