Tecumseh welcomes Santa Claus Friday night

A holiday tradition is set to return to Tecumseh Friday night.

The annual Christmas in Tecumseh and Santa Parade will officially kick off the holiday season, complete with a visit from the jolly old elf himself.

The evening begins with a performance by the St. Pius X School choir at 5:45 p.m., at the school near the parade's stepping-off point on  Lacasse Boulevard and Clapp Street.

The march begins at 6 p.m. and it will travel south on Lacasse to Tecumseh Road East.  It turns toward Lesperance Road, then heads back up Lesperance, before ending outside a reviewing stand in front of Tecumseh Town Hall.

Following the parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet visitors at their village at Tecumseh Arena.

Events have been planned at several locations in and around Town Hall and the arena.

The Tecumseh Vista Academy choir will perform outside Town Hall at 6 p.m., while visitors await Santa's arrival. Other events include an open house and marshmallow roast at the Tecumseh fire hall, an open house at the Tecumseh Essex-Windsor EMS detachment, horse and carriage rides, putt-putt golf, a holiday movie, face painting, Jangles the clown, children's entertainer Beebo, public skating, and hot dogs and warm refreshments.

The event is scheduled to run until 9 p.m. Friday.
