City seeks more input on Active Transportation Master Plan

The City of Windsor continues gathering public input about its new Active Transportation Master Plan called Walk Wheel Windsor.

The plan will set the foundation for developing well-connected, attractive active transportation networks that are safe, convenient and user-friendly, regardless of what mode of transportation people use, their age or ability.

Over the next four weeks, the city will be gathering feedback from residents on the strategies and actions being considered in the draft plan, as well as concepts being considered for the bicycle, sidewalk and transit networks.

The first forum was held on Saturday but more are set for this week.

Here is a list:

- Monday 4 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Windsor International Aquatic Centre in downtown Windsor.

- Tuesday 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Forest Glade Recreation Centre on Forest Glade Drive.

An online survey is also available on the city's project website until December 14.

The city adds there are several benefits to cities that enable routine engagement in active transportation ranging from improvements to public health, safety, and economic development, to a reduction in carbon emissions. The city also said that children and youth who walk or ride their bike to schools have lower levels of ADHD and anxiety as well as higher levels of academic achievement. Older adults who engage in active transportation report lower levels of social isolation and are less susceptible to a variety of illnesses like diabetes and Alzheimer’s.
