Former ballpark food employee gets probation

A former Comerica Park concession employee caught defiling food has been sentenced.

WDIV-TV in Detroit reports that 20-year-old Jaylon Juwan Kerley has been sentenced to 18 months of probation after he was videotaped spitting on a customer's pizza at a Little Caesars concession stand during a Detroit Tigers game in September. Kerley pleaded guilty to one count each of felony and misdemeanour food violations.

In addition to the probation, Kerley must also attend anger management classes and continue with therapy.

Kerley did not speak after the sentencing, but his lawyer told the Detroit Free Press that her client was "very remorseful".

The incident occurred on September 21 during a Tigers game against the Kansas City Royals. Kerley, who was assigned to a pizza stand on the lower level of the stadium, was filmed by another employee spitting on pizza dough, then putting pizza sauce on the dough. After the video went viral, Kerley was fired and turned over to Detroit police.

Concessions at Comerica Park are handled by Sportservice, which employs people to work the ballpark's food and drink stands.

There were no reports of anyone becoming ill. Kerley underwent a blood test after his arrest and tested negative for sexually transmitted infections, hepatitis and HIV/AIDS, according to WDIV.
