Vote recount in Amherstburg

The Town of Amherstburg is getting ready for a recount of the October 22 municipal election.

CAO John Miceli expects the deputy mayor recount to be finished by November 23 with official results soon after.

Councillor Diane Pouget requested the recount after Leo Meloche beat her by four votes in the race to become the new deputy mayor.

A total of 7,403 ballots were cast.

The recount will cost around $25,000.

The town clerk has said that the recount is not necessary because the vote tabulator company has stated that a voting machine recount is tough to overturn. The company added that the results always turn out the same as long as the operations are done the same way they were on election day.
