"Several" fentanyl overdoses result in five local deaths

Windsor Police Services is warning residents after a high number of fentanyl-related overdoses within the past 24 hours.

Staff Sergeant, Karel DeGraaf says five people died after officers assisted paramedics on several calls so far this weekend.

In most cases, the victims were revived after paramedics or those with the person suffering the overdose administered Narcan, a nasal spray containing naloxone.

DeGraaf was unable to say how many overdoses police were called out to assist with; he said the number was "several". He also could not tell how victims were men or women.

Fentanyl is a powerful opioid that can be fatal even in minute doses. Those who take street drugs are asked never to take them alone, and always make sure they or someone they are with has Narcan or naloxone with them.
