OPP raid Essex business, seize cannabis

The Ontario Provincial Police has arrested four people after carrying out a search warrant at a business in Essex.

Officers from the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau and the Essex County OPP Community Street Crime Unit were at the business on Talbot St. N Tuesday.

Police took away a quantity of cash, cannabis, and cannabis edibles.

Two Essex residents, 36-year-old Scott Fletcher and 25-year-old Chelsea Stevenson, were arrested, along two women from Leamington, 20-year-old Caitlynn Reid and 20-year-old Sydnee Sleeman.

Police remind the public although cannabis or marijuana is now legal, it is still illegal to buy it from any source other than a government-approved retailer. The only place Ontario residents over the age of 19 can purchase it right now is online from the Ontario Cannabis Store.

Tuesday's arrests in Essex came on the same day Windsor Police raided the Compassion House in Windsor. Five people face charges after marijuana was seized from the storefront on Tecumseh Rd. W and Church St.
