OPP charge Essex County man with driving while high

Police in Essex County have charged a Lakeshore man with drug-impaired driving.

The Ontario Provincial Police said they received a call from a concerned citizen shortly before 10:30 a.m. Thursday on Talbot Street outside of Essex.

OPP Constable Stephanie Moniz said the caller told police that the driver was speeding, passing traffic, and crossing the centre line of the road.

The vehicle was soon stopped by an OPP officer who, upon questioning the driver, determined he was allegedly high and arrested him at the scene. It was not disclosed which drug caused the alleged impairment.

Michael Dann, 30, is charged with driving while impaired by drug. This charge has yet to be proven in court and he will appear in a Windsor courtroom on December 2.

The OPP is also taking the opportunity to thank the public for taking a proactive approach to get impaired drivers off the road.

"The public's support is vital for we, as the police to be able to do our job and protect our citizens," said Essex County OPP detachment commander Glenn Miller. "We thank those that continue to call in suspected impaired drivers and encourage you to notify the police whenever you feel another driver's ability is in question. Impaired driving, whether by alcohol or drug, will not be tolerated."
