New wine festival coming to Windsor

The owner of WindsorEats thinks it is time to bring back a wine festival to Windsor-Essex.

Adriano Ciotoli already has the dates confirmed.

It will be June 28 and 29.

With the demise of the Shores of Erie International Wine Festival a few years ago, Ciotoli felt the time was right to reintroduce an event that celebrates the region's wineries.

"We've already had our Windsor Craft Beer Festival running for several years. We've launched the Whisky Town Festival, and now the wine festival is going to complete that trifecta of showcasing three of the great styles of beverages that we produce here in Windsor-Essex," he said.

Unlike the previous wine festival, this one will be held in the city, at Lanspeary Park on Ottawa Street.

"Within the city, you have all the accommodations, you have easy alternative transportation whether it's cab or Uber, or walking or cycling to hopefully reduce as much liability on our end as possible," said Ciotoli.

Shores of Erie was cancelled after festival volunteer, Emily Bernauer died in a crash in September 2014. The festival was eventually convicted of two charges of failing to prevent someone under the age of 19 from consuming alcohol and failing to inspect identification.

Ciotoli told BlackburnNews.com that his event would not be about consuming alcohol, so much as tasting what is available to the consumer locally.

"It's really about showcasing quality. It's not a drinking event, more of a tasting event," he said.
