Windsor

New mayors in LaSalle, Essex, Leamington and Pelee Island

Before the polls had even closed half of the mayoral races in Essex County had already been decided, but there were some surprises election night.

Leamington

The biggest upset of the night belongs to Leamington Deputy Mayor Hilda McDonald, who beat incumbent John Paterson in the polls and was elected the town's new mayor. McDonald came away with 4,341 votes over Paterson's 2,533.

Larry Verbeke is the town's new deputy mayor, while Bill Dunn, John Hammond, John Jacobs and Paul Tiessen, Tim Wilkinson will fill the rest of the seats on council.

LaSalle

LaSalle was going to get a new mayor. Incumbent, Ken Antaya decided not to run this time and a race shaped up between two council veterans, Gary Baxter and Marc Bondy. Bondy was elected the mayor.

Essex

Like LaSalle, the incumbent mayor, Ron McDermott decided to retire from politics after serving as mayor for multiple terms. Four candidates stepped up to the plate and Deputy Mayor Larry Snively won the mayors seat.

Richard Meloche won another term as deputy mayor.

Randy Voakes fell to Joe Garon in Ward 1.

It was Kim Verbeek in Ward 2, former Windsor Star columnist Chris Vander Doelen in Ward 3, and in Ward 4, Sherry Bondy won re-election.

Amherstburg

Mayor Aldo DiCarlo faced just one opponent in his bid for re-election. Ultimately, he beat Glenn Swinton.

Leo Meloche is the new deputy mayor, while Peter Courtney, Michael Prue, Marc Renaud, Patricia Simone, and former Windsor Star reporter Don McArthur will make up council.

Lakeshore

Mayor Tom Bain was one of three mayors acclaimed for this election.

The rest of the election results came in around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Tracey Bailey has been elected deputy mayor.  Steven Wilder won in Ward 1, Len Janisse in Ward 2, and Kelsey Santarossa will represent ward 3.  In Ward 4, the winner was John Kerr, and Kirk Walstedt in Ward 5.  Linda McKinlay was acclaimed in Ward 6.

Kingsville

Nelson Santos was acclaimed mayor, and Gord Queen was acclaimed deputy mayor.

On council, Kimberly DeYong, Tony Gaffan, Laura Lucier, Thomas Neufeld and Larry Patterson were elected.

Tecumseh

A number of positions were acclaimed including Mayor Gary McNamara. Also acclaimed, Andrew Dowie in Ward 1, Bill Altenhof in Ward 2, and Ward 5's Tania Jobin.

Joe Bachetti won re-election as deputy mayor. Retired OPP officer, Rick Tonial was elected in Ward 3, and Brian Houston in Ward 4.

Pelee Island

Rick Masse left the seat for Mayor open when he decided not to run again. Raymond Durocher was acclaimed.
