What do you think of supervised injection sites?

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit wants to know what you think of supervised injection sites.

It has launched an online survey that will remain open until December 17. Anyone who is over the age of 16, lives, works, or goes to school in Windsor can take part.

"Substance use is complex and requires more than one approach. Supervised injection sites have the potential to address the issues that we are seeing in Windsor-Essex County," said the health unit's CEO, Theresa Marentette.

Drug-related overdoses increased locally from 505 in 2016 to 783 last year. A recent report on opioid misuse in the region said the number of opioid users is 18.9 per cent higher in Windsor-Essex than the provincial rate.

The survey is part of a preliminary study. It will assess the needs of the community, and identify questions and concerns about the sites.
