Ontarians are modest pot smokers says Stats Canada

When it comes to pot smoking, Ontario sits in the middle of the pack.

Statistics Canada is reporting that 15.1 per cent of Ontarians 15 years old and overused cannabis over the last three months.

That's in line with the Canadian average but almost three per cent lower than statistics from the second quarter.

Stats Canada said males from 15 to 24 were the biggest users in Ontario during July, August and September. Most in Ontario that were surveyed said they used marijuana daily or almost daily during that time, but one in three admit they didn't pay for it.

It may surprise you to find out that Nova Scotians are the biggest pot smokers in Canada and not British Columbians. About 23 per cent of people in Nova Scotia smoked weed during the last three months, while 20 per cent in B.C. used marijuana.

Quebec ranks the lowest in Canada for pot consumption at 10.1 per cent of the population.

Recreational pot becomes legal across Canada for those 19 or older on Wednesday.
