Windsor robbery suspect arrested

Windsor police have arrested a convenience store robbery suspect.

Police said a man entered the store on Tecumseh Road near Tourangeau Road on Sunday afternoon, took out a knife and demanded money and merchandise from the employee. Investigators said the man was wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and a black ski mask to hide his identity. The clerk told officers a man uttered a threat and ran away with some cash and merchandise.

Police said there were no injuries.

Investigators were able to identify a suspect through surveillance video and arrested him on Monday morning at a motel on Howard Avenue near Grand Marais Road. Police said a Dodge Grand Caravan spotted in the surveillance video was also found in the parking lot of the motel. Investigators searched the motel room and van and recovered items stolen from the store.

Corey Sanko, 31, from Windsor is charged with robbery with a weapon, wearing a mask and disguise with the intent to commit an indictable offence and uttering death threats.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
