Spitfires shoot down the Spirit 7-5

The Windsor Spitfires topped the Saginaw Spirit 7-5 in OHL action on Thursday.

In an action-packed first period, Saginaw scored a two-goal advantage in the first 65 seconds of the game, but Jordan Frasca and Grayson Ladd both scored for Windsor to tie things up just before the 11-minute mark. Saginaw scored again with just over three minutes left in the period, and Jean-Luc Foudy added another for the Spitfires, but the Spirit held a one-goal lead after scoring a fourth time late in the frame.

Connor Corcoran scored the only goal of the second period to re-tie the game for Windsor.

The Spitfires surged in the final period with Luke Boka, Nathan Staios and Tyler Angle scoring back-to-back goals.  Saginaw scored another in the final two minutes of the game but it wasn't enough to surpass Windsor's advantage.

Windsor goaltender Michael DiPietro made 17 saves out of 21 shots on net in the first two periods. Spitfires goalie Kari Piiroinen took over in the third and made 14 saves out of 15 shots on net.

The Spitfires continue a stretch of games at home when they take on the Kitchener Rangers on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
