Some residents living in the small towns in Lakeshore are not happy about a recommendation to change their mailing addresses.
The recommendation to Canada Post comes from town officials. It wants to brand the town solely as Lakeshore and make mailing addresses uniform across the municipality.
For example, those living in Belle River or Stoney Point would both have a Lakeshore mailing address.
Canada Post has agreed to investigate it.
Mayor Tom Bain argued the change would help brand the town, and clear up the confusion for mail carriers and first responders.
"There's been problems with the mail itself with addresses such as RR 1 Windsor or RR 1 Tecumseh where the mail actually goes into Windsor or Tecumseh as opposed to going to a Lakeshore address," explained Bain. "And, then there's concern with emergency vehicles may do the same thing when you have duplicating addresses."
However, residents feel the change was already made years ago when the names of some roads were changed. At the time, Canada Post was not willing to consider changing mailing addresses, but now the Crown Corporation is making changes in LaSalle and Tecumseh.
The residents also said it will mean a lot of paperwork for them.
"It will for sure mean some extra paperwork, but it'll be a two-year process," said Bain. "So when you do things such as change your drivers' license, you would notify them at that time."
The town plans to hold its council meeting on October 9 at the Atlas Tube Centre.
