Windsor Resident Is Your New Miss Universe Canada

A Windsor resident and college student is taking on a new role -- Miss Universe Canada.

Marta Stepien, 24, won the crown over the weekend at the pageant taking place at the Centre For the Arts in Toronto. Stepien won the title over 43 other competitors.

Stepien was born in Poland but grew up in Windsor. According to her biography on the official Miss Universe Canada website, she currently holds a 3.96 grade-point average in the biomedical engineering technology program at St. Clair College. She will have a year left in the program to complete. She is also working on a certificate through the HMX Fundamentals program at Harvard Medical School in genetics and immunology.

In addition to her studies, Stepien's other main interests are volunteering and modelling. She has served as an ambassador for a Toronto-based company whose mission is to help young girls get a path toward higher education. Having begun her modelling career at age 14, she signed with an agency in Toronto and had represented multiple brands. She is currently signed with agencies in Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and Switzerland.

Stepien was the runner-up at the 2017 Miss Universe Canada pageant and was the first Canadian since 2006 to place at the Reinado Internacional del Café pageant earlier this year, finishing as the first runner-up.

She will compete at the Miss Universe pageant, taking place in Thailand this December.
