Who are the candidates in five of Essex County's communities?

Second of a three-part series.

On Monday, Windsor-Essex voters will choose their mayors, councillors and school board trustees to represent them for the next four years.

Upon the completion of nominations this summer, BlackburnNewsWindsor.com provided a comprehensive summary of the candidates in each Windsor-Essex municipality. This series has been updated by the newsroom and will be presented online throughout the weekend leading up to the Monday vote.

All candidates listed are on the ballot according to their official municipalities' websites, as of Friday afternoon.

In part one, published on Saturday, BlackburnNewsWindsor.com took an updated look at the candidates for the two English-language and two French-language school boards. In this installment, the candidates in Lakeshore, LaSalle, Leamington, Pelee Island and Tecumseh are summarized.

The conclusion of the series, online for Election Day on Monday, will focus on the city of Windsor and the rest of Essex County.

BlackburnNews.com will be on-air and online Monday night with election coverage.  The entire news team will be collecting and analyzing results for the web and social media. In addition, hourly election updates will run beginning at 8 p.m. Monday on Mix 96.7FM and Windsor's Country 95.9.

Lakeshore

Tom Bain, who has been mayor since 2006, will serve another four years. He is acclaimed.

Deputy Mayor Al Fazio is trying for another term, and is being challenged by Ward 4 councillor Tracey Bailey and Sean Gabriele.

On council, Ward 1 incumbent Steven Wilder is running against John-Mark Jurak. In Ward 2, Len Janisse faces a challenge from Lana Drouillard and Samantha Russell.

In Ward 3, incumbent Dave Monk is not running again. Four candidates want to succeed him, Steve Colasanti, Ray Holland, Kelsey Santarossa and Kevin St. Pierre.

There are six people running for the soon-to-be-vacant Ward 4 seat. They are Romeo Beaulieu, Steven Bezaire, Paddy Byrne, Susan Dozois, John Kerr and Jennifer-Jane Poisson.

Ward 5 incumbent Dan Diemer wants another four years, but he has four challengers, Rolf Keller, Tim McDermott, Wayne Rose and Kirk Walstedt.

Linda McKinlay is acclaimed in Ward 6.

LaSalle

The retirement of Mayor Ken Antaya means there will be a new mayor in LaSalle come Tuesday morning.

Former mayor Gary Baxter has filed to run. Baxter will face off against current deputy mayor Marc Bondy.

At-large councillor Crystal Meloche is seeking a promotion to deputy mayor and will get it. She's running unopposed.

The four remaining incumbent councillors are looking for re-election. They are Mike Akpata, Terry Burns, Sue Desjarlais and Jeffrey Renaud.

Five challengers are in the mix, among them French Catholic school board trustee Adrien Bezaire. The other four are Mark Carrick, Russ Hazael, Anita Riccio-Spagnuolo and Sam Sleiman.

Leamington

One race that will get attention Monday night is the one for Leamington mayor. Longtime incumbent John Paterson is facing off against deputy mayor Hilda MacDonald. Bruce Medcalf is also running for mayor.

Councillor Larry Verbeke wants to move up to the soon-to-be-open deputy mayor's seat. He's running against Dharmesh Patel.

The rest of the at-large councillors will run again. Those are Bill Dunn, John Hammond, John Jacobs and Tim Wilkinson.

There are ten challengers seeking a spot on the council dais. Derek Friesen, Donald W. Haggith, Trevor Jones, Heather Latam, Marlon Ordonez, Oscar Ramirez, Brian Scott, Mark Simpson, Kyle Sousa and Paul Tiessen are on the ballot.

Pelee Island

There will be a new mayor in Pelee Island after this election. Longtime mayor Rick Masse had announced in the spring that he would not stand again, citing his desire to spend more time with his family.

A successor is already acclaimed, with Raymond Durocher the only person to file to run in that position.

Six people are up for the four positions on council, with a deputy mayor to be chosen from them. The incumbents returning are previous deputy mayor David DeLillis and councillor Dayne Malloch. The others are Sherri Ouellette-Smith, David Dawson, Christopher Watson and Bruno Friesen.

Tecumseh

Gary McNamara will be one of Windsor-Essex's longest-serving active mayors when the new council takes office.

McNamara, first elected in 2003, is unopposed and will have another four years.

Deputy Mayor Joe Bachetti is running for re-election but is being challenged by Ward 3 councillor Rita Ossington and Leo Demarce.

Ward 1, which previously had two councillors, is being split into two for this election. Andrew Dowie will be acclaimed as Ward 1 councillor.

Bill Altenhof, elected in a by-election to replace the deceased Mike Rohrer, is acclaimed in Ward 2 and will serve on council in his own right.

Two candidates are vying for the now-open Ward 3 seat, Dwayne Ellis and Rick Tonial.

In Ward 4, Brian Houston is running again. He is being challenged by former Ontario PC Windsor West candidate Adam Ibrahim and Michael Ristovski.

Ward 5's Tania Jobin is standing unopposed for another term.
