New Tecumseh Playground Taps Into The Child In All Of Us

The Town of Tecumseh has officially opened its new playground at Lacasse Park.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Thursday morning.

The swings, slides, jungle gym and rubber flooring were installed in June after they were damaged by fire in October.

The new playground offers barrier-free and accessible equipment.

Mayor Gary McNamara says it was the first barrier-free playground in Canada in 2005.

“We are pleased that the park is back in full operation as many of our littlest residents use the equipment on a daily basis,” said McNamara. “We have received a number of compliments from parents expressing their happiness that the park is back open for play.”

“The Parks Department appreciated the patience of residents during the time it took to replace the equipment,” said Paul Anthony, director of Parks & Recreation Services. “We were just as eager to get the equipment up, inspected and open for our youngest residents. Since the play equipment was reopened, we have received a number of positive compliments from parents and are happy to be able to provide another area for outdoor activity.”
