Sleiman Seeks A Third Term On Council

A Windsor city councillor wants another four years.

Ward 5 Councillor Ed Sleiman has officially declared his intention to run for a third term. He announced his candidacy outside City Hall Thursday morning.

Sleiman said he's running again because there is still work to do for Ward 5 residents and the rest of the city.

"We need to create a healthy, vibrant and resilient city for our citizens to work, raise a family and enjoy the amenities Windsor provides," said Sleiman in a statement released Thursday. "Windsor must continue its path of being an age-friendly city to attract seniors from across the country while pursuing job opportunities for our young people."

Sleiman said he also wants to keep working to bring more skilled tradespeople to the area.

"As a community, we need to work together combining the resources of the public, private and trades sectors to ramp up the teaching of hard skills in our high schools and colleges," said Sleiman. "This will greatly assist students on a career path for those good-paying jobs while enhancing our skilled labour pool to attract more new industries to Windsor."

He added that he's pleased to have been part of a council that has kept tax increases in check during his tenure, lowering the city's property taxes and decreasing debt.

Sleiman is not the only incumbent on city council to announce a re-election bid. Ward 1's Fred Francis filed his papers last week and is currently running unopposed. The only other incumbent so far to declare is Ward 2's John Elliott, with Catholic school board trustee Fabio Costante challenging him.

Three candidates are now running in Ward 5. Hospitality professional Joey Wright is having a second crack at council. Also, former Canadian Senate assistant Lillian Kruzsely is a challenger.
