Finnish Firm Hired To Speed Up Building Permit Process

Windsor will soon be the first city in Canada to process building permits 100% digitally.

It could be a big help for anyone who plans to build a house, or company that has a new development planned.

City council voted in favour of a recommendation to hire the Finnish firm, Evolta on a $1.5-million contract. The company already digitally produces permits for 250 cities in Finland.

"Their software actually integrates with the software that we use corporate-wide called Amanda," says Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.

Dilkens says it should help speed up the process for developers.

"We think it's going to save time and save money for development in the City of Windsor which allows them to work on their developments and get them out of the ground faster," he says.

The firm also plans to locate its North American headquarters in Windsor, eventually employing up to 75 people.
