A Big Weekend In Leamington

This weekend is the beginning of what the Municipality of Leamington hopes is a big summer.

In addition to the Leamington Fair taking place this Father's Day weekend, Leamington will officially christen its new Seacliff Park Amphitheatre with the first event of the new Music OnThe42 Summer Concert Series.

The 170th edition of the Leamington Fair begins Friday at the Leamington Fairgrounds. Put on by the Leamington District Agricultural Society, the fair is one of the oldest continuing fairs in the province. It will feature a carnival midway with games, plus harness racing, contests, a community concert, a greenhouse competition and other activities. The RCMP's famous Musical Ride will also take place on Saturday at 11am and Sunday at 2pm.

The 6,000-seat amphitheatre will kick off its summer season on Saturday when Dave Russell performs at 7pm, followed at 8:30pm by the three-time Juno Award-winning rock band The Sheepdogs.

The venue, completed this spring and sitting on an area obliterated by the 2010 tornado, will feature rock, classical and country acts.

Leamington Mayor John Paterson told BlackburnNewsWindsor.com at the April ribbon-cutting that they have high expectations for the amphitheatre and that it was a long time coming.

“I don’t have words as to how excited I am,” said Paterson at the time. “This has been a long-time dream of mine, and a lot of my friends who play music as well, we’ve been dreaming about this forever and a day.”
