UPDATE: Windsor Drop-Off Depot Reopened

Windsor's public drop-off depot for trash had to be closed for a few hours Friday because of a chemical leak.

The Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority says the depot on N. Service Rd. near Central Ave. was temporarily closed as a precaution.

"The unknown substance that was identified this morning, has been contained and safely handled at the Public Drop Off Depot," it said in a news release issued Friday afternoon. "The EWSWA and the City of Windsor would like to remind residents that all chemicals dropped off at the Public Drop Off Depot must be clearly labelled as to the type of substance contained."

The EWSWA says a chemical substance was discovered on the premises around 9am Friday.

The depot re-opened just after 1pm.
