New City Hall Set To Open Tuesday

A new era in Windsor city government begins Tuesday.

Windsor's new City Hall, the product of several years of planning and two years of construction, begins conducting city business Tuesday afternoon.

Crews had been working through the Victoria Day weekend to close up the old building next door and move city departments to the new building.

The city is hoping to have the building ready for business around noon.

The opening will be the culmination of two years of construction for the New City Hall. The soon-to-be-former City Hall was completed in 1956, though the seat of municipal government had been on that site since 1904.

For those doing business with the city Tuesday, neither building will be open between 8:30am and noon. The only exception will be the City Clerk's office in the old City Hall, which will be open only to allow people to file candidacy papers to run in the October municipal election.

The official grand opening of the New City Hall will take place during the city's 126th birthday celebration. It will take place on Saturday at 11am, following the annual Mayor's Walk.

The first City Council meeting in the new building is on Monday, June 4 at 6pm. The meeting set for May 28 has been cancelled.
