Giant Tiger Coming To Tecumseh Mall

New shopping options are coming for east Windsor residents.

Tecumseh Mall will receive a new Giant Tiger store, according to the mall's general manager, Colleen Conlin.

In an email to BlackburnNewsWindsor.com, Conlin confirms that Giant Tiger has signed on. She says the retailer will be just one establishment to occupy the site of the former Zellers.

"[Giant Tiger is] going to be approximately 25,000 sq ft and we have another tenant coming next to them, which will be approximately 18,000 sq ft," says Conlin.

The name of the other potential tenant has not been disclosed.

The Zellers store that was originally in that location closed in 2013 when the discount chain went out of business. Since then, portions of the space have been occupied by the HGS call centre, and the SkyZone trampoline park.

The mall first opened in 1973, but since the closing of Zellers and the Sobeys supermarket the following year, it has paled in comparison to the city's Devonshire Mall in foot traffic and occupancy. However, Conlin says that's changing with these new tenants and there's more news on the horizon.

"We are also working with another anchor on the other end for the spring of 2019," says Conlin. "Great things are happening here in Windsor."

The Giant Tiger store is expected to open this fall. There is no word yet on how many people the chain will hire or when hiring will begin.
