Don't Fall For This Scam

Essex OPP says they have received several complaints over the past two months about a Revenue Canada scam.

Police say one victim reported being contacted by someone requesting payment of back taxes through gift cards.

Investigators say the woman bought $4,715 worth of cards and provided the activation codes along with her social insurance number.

Police suggest contacting the Canada Revenue Agency to confirm you owe back taxes or are entitled to a refund and never provide personal information on inbound phone calls.

The CRA would never request payment by money service business or iTunes gift cards.
