Historic Former Armoury Up For Sale

A window to Windsor's military past is on the block.

The former HMCS Hunter Naval Reserve building, which had been the home of the reserve unit from 1941 to 2015, has been listed for sale. The Government of Canada's official website confirms that the property has been listed with a local realtor.

The building, which contains over 51,000 sq ft of floor space, is listed at $2,250,000.

The former armoury had served as a training ground and as housing for sailors preparing to head to combat during the Second World War. Following the war, the Windsor Naval Reserve Division had used it as its headquarters. After the unit moved in February 2015 to its current quarters on Mill St., the Ouellette building had been allowed to decay.

With the building's responsibility in the hands of the Ministry of Defence, Windsor West MP Brian Masse called on the federal government last summer to rehabilitate the building.
