Leamington's Bank Theatre is celebrating after it raised $400,000.
The theatre had until April 23 to raise the money for renovations at its Erie St. S location. The Municipality of Leamington will match those funds through a trust fund set up to support the arts for a total of $800,000.
President of the Bank Theatre, Ursula Tiessen admits the task seemed daunting.
"We are actually a bit over with some donations still to come," she says. "We couldn't have done it without the many generous donations large and small."
The campaign started last October.
The theatre has been undergoing renovations for years. Last fall, work on washrooms, a new box office, VIP lounge, and grand staircase started.
Until the renovations are complete, the theatre will continue to hold events offsite.
