Gretzky Urges Government To Help End Caesars Strike

Windsor-West MPP Lisa Gretzky is urging the provincial government to help put an end to the Caesars Windsor Strike.

During question period Tuesday, Gretzky asked the premier to demand that Caesars Windsor management return to the bargaining table.

"Casinos in Ontario operate in partnership with the OLG a division of this Liberal government. These 2,300 workers make the hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue that the casino takes possible. They deserve respect and a partner in the negotiation process," says Gretzky.

Minister of Labour Kevin Flynn says it is not the responsibility of government to interfere with these kinds of labour disputes. A mediator has been provided to assist both sides.

"It's a responsibility of the employer and the union to make every effort to resolve their differences at the bargaining table," says Flynn. "I don't know how the member is asking me as the Minister of Labour to interfere with this dispute."

Gretzky says that's not what she's after.

"No one is asking the premier to interfere with collective bargaining, we are asking her to make sure that management at Caesars Windsor comes to the table in good faith, that's all," says Gretzky.

Around 2,300 Caesars employees have been on strike since April 6, 2018. Caesars has cancelled all entertainment booked until May 19, 2018.
