Suspect Charged In Convenience Store Robbery

A suspect is being held following a robbery at a downtown Windsor convenience store.

Windsor police say it happened around 10:30am Wednesday at the store on Ouellette Ave. between Erie St. W and Elliott St. W.  A man entered the business and asked the clerk for cigarettes. He then tried to grab cigarettes on his own from behind the front counter.

When the clerk confronted him, police say the man tried to assault him. The clerk was not hurt. The man then shoved another customer aside and fled the store.

A suspect was later identified and picked up Thursday evening on Victoria Ave. near Wyandotte St. W.

The 46-year-old is charged with robbery and assault.
