Alzheimer's Society Launches Matching Campaign

With demands for services on the rise, the Alzheimer's Society of Windsor and Essex County is kicking off its second annual matching gift campaign.

The owner of Ground Effects Ltd., Jim Scott has pledged up to $50,000 to the organization to be matched by community donations.

Alzheimer's Society CEO Sally Bennett Olczak says Scott generously increased his contribution as the need for services grows in the community.

"The big picture is the population of people with dementia is growing.  We have not been able to keep pace. All of our programs are operating at capacity, or beyond capacity," says Bennett Olczak.

She says current estimates show 7,400 people in Windsor-Essex who have been diagnosed with dementia, and that number grows 4-5% every year.

"The challenge for all of us here at the Alzheimer's Society, along with the loving and caring support of the community of Windsor Essex, is to raise more funds to provide enhanced quality programs, and more services," says Bennett Olczak.

The campaign runs until June 30, 2018.

Donations can be made by visiting the Alzheimer's Society office on Richmond St., by phone or by visiting the Alzheimer's Society website.

Last year, Scott pledged $25,000 in the campaign, and $52,000 was raised for the Alzheimer's Society of Windsor-Essex.
