House Fire Causes $80K In Damages

Fire officials are crediting a working smoke alarm for saving the lives of six people after a Windsor home burst into flames.

The Windsor Fire and Rescue Service says on Thursday just before 9am, firefighters responded to the house fire at 728 Rankin Ave.

There were six people in the home at the time of the fire but they were alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm, and were able to make it out of the house safely. No injuries have been reported, however, all have been displaced.

A fire investigator has determined that the fire started in an enclosed rear porch near a garbage pail, causing damage to the kitchen and exterior of the home.  The cause currently remains undetermined.

Damage to the home is estimated at around $80,000.
