Half-A-Million For Jobs Skills And Training Program At Downtown Mission

The Enterprise program, which offers clientele at Windsor's Downtown Mission a second chance at employment, is getting $497,000 over three years.

It's a Grow Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Windsor West MPP Lisa Gretzky and OTF Grant Review Team member Dan Allen were at the Mission Wednesday morning to hand over the cheque.

"The Downtown Mission is well known for the essential services it provides for vulnerable and at-risk people in Windsor," said Gretzky. "Expanding the scope of the innovative Enterprise Program -- is another example of how the Ontario Trillium Foundation supports meaningful change in our community."

Responding to the needs of those considered at risk, the Mission built a targeted program in 2010 to help those who face long-standing barriers to employment training. By 2016, the program was expanded to offer training in fields like customer service, hospitality, marketing, and graphic design and printing.

"This funding helps ensure the sustainability so that it will remain an important component of the Mission's heightened level of service offerings," says Executive Director Ron Dunn.
