Police Stop Fraud At Devonshire Mall

Windsor police say they stopped a fraud operation in progress at Devonshire Mall this week.

Patrol officers were notified on December 5 of a suspicious transaction at the guest services department. A man from Toronto bought several mall gift cards using a credit card. Moments later a female customer tried to do the same but was denied because her ID was expired.

The gift cards were later used to make a purchase at a store at the mall.

Officers found the male suspect still at the store and he was arrested. Police later discovered the credit card he used to purchase the gift cards had been altered and that he was under court orders not to possess a credit card. Police say he also had methamphetamine in his possession.

The female suspect was also found still at the mall. Police determined she was using fake ID to try to buy the gift cards. She was also under court orders not to possess a credit card.

The 38-year-old male suspect is facing fraud, breach of recognizance, breach of probation, and drug possession charges.
