Chair, Vice-Chair Picked For Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board

The trustees at the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board have chosen the latest chair and vice-chair.

According to a news release, Barbara Holland will continue on as the chair of the school board. Holland will work with the new-vice chair Lisa Soulliere, who was elected to the position at an annual organizational meeting Tuesday night.

Holland, who has been a trustee for 17 years, was first elected as chair of the board in 2012.

“We’ve made a tremendous amount of progress over the last year, but we are always looking for ways to continually improve,” says Holland. “I’m looking forward to working closely with our new Director of Education Terry Lyons, the rest of our senior administrative team and our trustees on finding new ways to help all of our students succeed.”

Soulliere, the new vice-chair, was first elected in 2000 to represent the Lakeshore area. She sits on several of the board’s committees, including the Special Education Advisory Committee, the Audit Committee, and the Indigenous Education Advisory Committee.

A major priority for Soulliere is student achievement.

“Our student assessment results are among the best in the province and that’s because we have wonderful teachers and because we’ve been very efficient with our resources,” she says. “We need to keep that momentum going, and make sure that we are responsibly managing our assets.”

Mary DiMenna, who nominated Soulliere, will continue to serve as a trustee, but decided not to run again for the position of vice-chair.
