Tunnel Open For US Thanksgiving Weekend

Football fans and holiday shoppers can rejoice.

With the American Thanksgiving holiday in full swing, Canadian commuters will be able to use the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel with ease.

An ongoing ceiling reconstruction project will be suspended for the U.S. holiday weekend, meaning that the tunnel will be open without restrictions from Thanksgiving Thursday until Sunday.

The tunnel opening will not only mean easier travel for Canadians who travel to the U.S. for work, but also for those wanting to attend the Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Detroit Lions-Minnesota Vikings football game at Ford Field.

It will also benefit those hitting the American shopping malls for Black Friday deals as well as college football fans heading to Ann Arbor Saturday for the traditional rivalry game between Michigan and Ohio State.

The tunnel ceiling project has been ongoing for over a month. It had been shut down completely for ten days at the beginning of October to allow crews to make progress on the construction. The tunnel has also been closed Sunday through Thursday nights since.

The tunnel will resume weeknight closures Monday night, and the closures will continue periodically through summer 2018.
