SIU Drops Investigation

The province's police watchdog is no longer looking into an incident with Windsor police that left a 19-year-old suspect with a face injury.

The Special Investigations Unit was called to investigate after an arrest in September. Windsor police made a traffic stop on September 10, 2017 on Beals St. to speak to a person of interest believed to be in the vehicle. The suspect got out of the vehicle and was injured during an interaction with the officers. He refused medical treatment, was arrested, and charged with several offences.

SIU Director Tony Loparco says the injury was not serious and they have concluded their investigation.

“The evidence shows the man did not sustain a serious injury. As such, I have terminated the investigation into this incident,” Loparco.

The SIU is called any time there is a death or serious injury after an interaction with police.
