SIU Clears Police After Man Jumps From Roof

The Special Investigations Unit has closed the case of a man who broke his leg after jumping from the roof of a home to get away from police.

The unit started its probe back on September 11.

Windsor police received a 911 call about a fight at a house in the Ottawa St. and Parent Ave. area. The 26-year-old man jumped when police arrived and broke his leg when he landed on a cement driveway.

SIU Director Tony Loparco says the man decided not to participate in the SIU investigation, and since there was no evidence officers did anything to contribute to his injury, "Accordingly, I have terminated the investigation."

The Special Investigations Unit investigates reports involving police where there has been a death, serious injury, or allegation of sexual assault. The director must consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident and lay charges against the officer if appropriate, or close the file.
