Can-Am Friendship Centre Still Closed Months After Flood

Months after the deluge that flooded more than 6,000 homes in Windsor, the Can-Am Friendship Centre is still dealing with flood damage.

The damage is so severe; the organization still can not hold its programs at its home on Howard Ave.

"A lot of it happened in their basement, but there was a lot of furnishings and equipment that they use in the basement," says Shannon Armstrong with the University of Windsor Social Work Student Association, one of the groups organizing a pasta fundraising dinner this month. "When their insurance came through, they noticed their insurance was not adequate to entirely replace the losses or to help them find alternative working space."

Armstrong says the centre needs $50,000. She says her association, along with the Native American Association at the university are holding an all-you-can-eat pasta fundraiser to help.

The fundraiser is on Thursday, November 16 from 6pm to 10pm at the Fogolar Furlan Club in Windsor.

Armstrong says they are also looking for donations from businesses in the city to use as raffle prizes and inviting vendors to the event.

Tickets are $15 each and are available by contacting the group through their Facebook page or by emailing roylek@uwindsor.ca.
